Accessibility Statement
Last updated: 3 November 2026
We want everyone to be able to cook with Smart Kitchen Assistant, whatever their ability, device or setup. This statement explains what we offer, what we know still needs work, and how to tell us about a problem.
1. Accessibility options on every page
Look for this button in the top menu (or inside the menu on mobile), or press Alt + Shift + A on any page.
- Text size: make all text larger across the site.
- High contrast: darker text and stronger outlines.
- Underline links: make every link easy to spot.
- Readable font: a plain, wider font that many people with dyslexia find easier.
- Extra spacing: more space between lines, words and letters.
- Reduce motion: turns off animations. We also follow your device's "reduce motion" setting automatically.
Your choices are saved on your device only and apply every time you visit. They are never sent to us.
2. Other ways we support access
- You can zoom up to 500% using pinch-to-zoom or your browser's zoom.
- A "Skip to main content" link appears when you press Tab, so keyboard users can jump past the menu.
- Every button, link, menu and form can be used with just a keyboard, with a clear green outline showing where you are.
- Images have text descriptions, buttons and form fields are labelled for screen readers, and form errors are announced.
- Text colours meet the WCAG contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1.
- Moving previews on the homepage have a pause button, and stay still if you've asked for reduced motion.
- Every page has its own title and a clear heading structure, and navigation stays in the same place on every page.
- There are no time limits on any task, and no audio or video plays automatically.
- Cooking mode can read recipe steps aloud, so you don't need to look at the screen while cooking.
- Recipes can be shown in UK (g, ml, °C) or US (oz, cups, °F) measurements.
3. How accessible this website is
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We have not yet had a formal independent audit, so we believe the site partially meets this standard. We know about these limitations:
- Some recipe photos come from third-party recipe sites and may not have detailed descriptions.
- AI-generated recipes may occasionally use inconsistent headings or formatting.
- Barcode scanning needs a camera; you can search for foods by name instead.
- Some decorative coloured badges and gradients may fall slightly below ideal contrast. The high contrast option helps with this.
We are working through these and review accessibility whenever we add new features.
4. Report a problem or ask for help
If something is hard to use, or you need information in a different format, email smartkitchenassistant@gmail.com or use our contact page. Please tell us the page and what went wrong. We aim to reply within 5 working days.
5. If you're not happy with our response
You can contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) at equalityadvisoryservice.com.
